Hotel Del Coronado Holiday Season Engagement Session
Thomas + Allie
To prepare for their upcoming Big Day, the couple decided to hold an engagement session in 3 historical San Diego locations: Balboa Park, Downtown San Diego, and Hotel Del Coronado.
Balboa Park
When you think of San Diego, Balboa Park is one of the first destinations that comes to mind. It’s one of the city’s most sprawling and historic outdoor spaces, with unique photo opportunities at every corner.
Allie and Thomas showed up at Balboa Park on a crisp autumn day in early December. Allie wore a festive red sleeveless bandage dress with a velvet blazer, while Brian kept it simple in all-black with a structured flannel jacket. The couple wandered through Balboa Park’s historical gardens and Mexican mission-style architecture for their engagement session. The warm reds and yellows from the trees made for some incredible shots showcasing the couple’s sweet and goofy sides.
Downtown San Diego
As night fell on shoot day, the couple decided to move to Downtown San Diego for a chic nighttime shoot amongst the city skyline. For couples who want an urban-themed engagement session, Downtown San Diego perfectly fits the bill. At every corner, you can find historic buildings, hand-painted murals, unique statues, and tall skyscrapers to serve as the backdrop to your photo shoot.
Allie wore a forest green dress and a cropped houndstooth blazer to complete the look. The backdrop of one of San Diego’s tall skyscrapers in the chilly autumn night gave Allie and Thomas’s engagement session a romantic Christmas movie vibe – with a happy ending, of course!
Hotel Del Coronado
To cap off the end of their engagement session, Allie and Thomas chose the Hotel Del Coronado as their final venue. Built in 1888, the Hotel Del Coronado was an ode to the picturesque Coronado Beach, and was considered an architectural masterpiece of its time. Today, it’s a historical landmark, and a perfect venue for engagement sessions. Allie and Thomas took pictures on the carpeted grand staircase, the hallway made of rich old wood, the all-white terrace overlooking the central courtyard, and finally, the central courtyard itself, where the glittering fairy lights lent their shot some upcoming holiday cheer.
